Neuro-Kinetic Therapy (NKT) is a method of manual muscle testing designed to direct treatment and more accurately pinpoint the causes of pain. It was developed by manual therapist David Weinstock to help practitioners go directly to the cause of the pain rather than simply treating the symptoms of dysfunction and muscle imbalance. NKT is an assessment and treatment modality that addresses the causes of dysfunctional movement/coordination problems at their root in the motor control center in the cerebellum.

I find NKT to be the perfect bridge connecting massage and MELT. I use NKT muscle testing to assess where muscle imbalances are present in the body. I then can release muscles that need it with massage and use MELT as client homework to release facilitated muscles and strengthen inhibited muscles. It is the missing link providing more accurate, effective treatment using all of the modalities that I love.

Movement of the body is governed by the motor control center in the cerebellum. Any motion a body makes is a complex pattern with multiple muscular players. These players frequently become out of balance, with some muscles being overactive and others failing to participate in good timing or at all. Dysfunction in these movement patterns can be result of many things: traumatic injury, over use, under use, repetitive stress, postural stress, etc.  NKT testing identifies these imbalances and helps me determine which muscles are overworking and are in need of release and which muscles are not getting a good neurological signal from the brain and are in need of strengthening.

A typical NKT session will combine muscle testing with hands-on massage and bodywork as well as corrective exercises. NKT sessions are generally 1 hour long and are fully clothed, both on the massage table and off. You can expect to have homework in the form or release work and corrective exercises that you will perform in the weeks after your session. NKT Sessions are $80/hour.
